We are leading Africa into its future…or…?

“What exactly is ‘the role’ of a white & Western & person & woman in 21st century, fast changing and ‘soon to be empowered’ Africa?”

History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need to be lived again – Maya Angelou, USA, R.I.P.

The majority of white people entered Africa since 15th century with the aim ‘to lead Africa into a new (Christian) world’ during the colonial ages, with the aim to help after the colonial ages and with the aim to invest in recent years.

Despite all good intentions, most of these people were fed beforehand by Western and one-dimensional paradigms about Africa and her merely black inhabitants. Based on stories heared and without actually experiencing reality with an open, non-judgmental mind. And when being in the reality of Africa, people act on these paradigms, mostly unconcious (original source; Mark Heirman – Afrika in de vuurlijn).

Not much has changed since then. Today, main stream media, are still feeding people with one-dimensional, one-side perspectives.

But the old paradigms of ‘developed’ Europe and ‘under-developed’ Africa are shifting rapidly in the coming decades. And since I am one of the contributors in making that shift in the world, since many years, I am sharpening my mind today with the personal and guiding question:

“What exactly is ‘the role’ of a white & Western & person & woman in 21st century, fast changing and ‘soon to be empowered’ Africa?”

It will support me in gaining new perspectives, in observing the consistency of my own behavior and actions and in expanding myself as a human being.

Open mindedness opens minds – E. Melo, Ghana, September 2014

I am looking forward to questioning myself, my presence and my role in Ghana. I am looking forward to re-writing another chapter in our common history. And I will mainly do this through real life and co-creative learning with the future-oriented (young) talented entrepreneurs and leaders of Ghana.

You are very welcome to join our learning journey !

  1. Enjoy your journey. I really hope you will make a positive contribution to the advancement of Ghana, which is already more empowered, economically and culturally, than other African nations.
