During one of my daily walks in the neighborhood in Ghana, a man passes, stops and greets me with great enthusiasm. After the general: “Where are you from? Holland? Great football players!” he says:
“It is what I thought about you”.
“What did you think?” I ask.
“I always see you walking down the street. You are passing my shop. I am a dress maker.
I feel happy when I look at you. As if you are shining. And you are”.
Before, I would have thought ‘yeah yeah, smooth talk’.
But now I know better: many Ghanaians just see and feel things purely as they are.
So I smile and promiss him to keep on shining.
Inside each and everyone of us is one true, authentic swing (anonymous).
